If there is one thing I know, Kelsi is a master in all things potty… #1 or #2. In fact whenever we are public and Kelsi uses the restroom I always ask “#1 or #2?” ‘It gets a laugh like a quarter of the time.’ In all seriousness I kept telling Kels she needs to write a book about potty training because she has it down. I guess a blog post is the next best thing. I’ll turn the time over to her…

I don’t consider myself a professional by any means. But this has worked for all 4 of my kids in 3 days. The secret sauce in my opinion is the close the 3 the EASIER it will be! I’ve done all 4 of my kids a few months before they turn 3. I know of many instances where they try when they are too young and it ends up taking months. The same can happen if you wait too long. Shoot for before their 3rd birthday!

• Prepare. Plan a time you can be home for 3 days straight. Get a potty that will get them excited to sit on. Prepare a prize box. It can be as simple as a small treat every time they go or a small prize. Purchase some new underwear that they will be excited to wear.
• Day 1- Give them all the juice and liquids- you want them to really begin to notice the pee feeling. We spend most of this day just sitting on the little potty. Have a show going, show them some potty training youtube videos. Cocomelon was Lia’s favorite. Let them get up every once and a while to run around. That first time can feel scary for them, we make sure to really make that first time exciting and they deserve a prize for that! You will experience a few accidents that first day but that’s good they are getting a feel for it and they don’t want to feel wet. At night I put a diaper on them while they sleep.

• Day 2- They should really start to get a feel for it. We don’t do as much sitting and waiting on the potty but lots of asking “do you need to go potty?” We experienced only one accident this day.
• Day 3- No accidents and they should start to tell you when they feel it. Now normally my kids haven’t pooped by this time. This feels extra scary for them. This video is played on repeat at our house.
• Day 4- Life can somewhat go back to normal. Continue asking if they need to go potty.
• Day 5- If they still haven’t pooped make sure they are getting lots of fluid and fiber in their diet. They can’t hold it forever they will eventually give in. I could tell when she was feeling it so I made her sit on the potty. They will fight you but do your best to make them comfortable. Put on a show, sing a song, show them a potential poop prize! That worked for Lia. She finally went day 5 and was so proud of herself. We went to the store to pick our her final potty prize. This reward has been a hit for Lia and she is constantly using potty training in her play. Get a reward for yourself too because YOU deserve it. I treated myself to these beauties.

Night time training will come. I never do pull ups. I keep the diaper on and within a week or so (different for each kid) they will start to wake up dry. I also bought a new product that might help with this and I will keep you posted. My other kids were night trained by now but Lia sleeps for so long!
